Tucked into the heart of Le Marais, this maisonette opens directly onto the street, putting Paris right outside the door. Place des Vosges is a five-minute walk away, with acclaimed restaurants, cafes, and boutiques woven into the surrounding streets. Inside, high ceilings and bright interiors span three floors, and an in-apartment sauna is a rare find for this city. We think it's a quietly brilliant base for seeing a great deal of Paris without any fuss.

* At full capacity, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living area.
* You're right on a lively Marais street, and so expect to hear noise from the road and nearby restaurants – particularly in the mornings when the neighbourhood comes to life. If you're a light sleeper, consider bringing earplugs.
* The spiral staircase is a charming part of this home's character, but it's steep and narrow – it's difficult to manage with large suitcases.
* One of the two bedrooms doesn't have a door – it opens onto the staircase – and the main bedroom has a glazed panel rather than a solid wall. It works well for close-knit families or friends, but may feel a little open for guests who prefer more separation.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair – worth requesting in advance to make sure it's ready when you arrive.
