Centuries-old timber beams and twin skylights set this central Paris apartment apart – it has real character, not just a convenient address. That said, the location is hard to ignore. You're in the 1st arrondissement here – the Louvre is minutes away on foot, the Jardin des Tuileries a five-minute walk, and Rue de Rivoli practically on your doorstep for cafes and browsing. Back inside, a modern kitchen and dedicated desk make it equally suited to longer stays.

Home truths:
* The elevator brings you to the fourth floor, but you'll need to climb one additional flight of stairs to reach the apartment on the fifth floor.
* At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
* Well-behaved pets are welcome to accompany you during your stay for no additional charge.
* You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.
* The ceiling in some areas is on the low side. It might not be suitable for taller guests.
* Given the home's central spot, expect to hear some street noise throughout your stay.
