Marché d'Aligre – one of the liveliest markets for fresh produce and cheese – is around five minutes' walk, and Place de la Bastille is a thirteen-minute walk away. Back inside, the living area is warm and inviting after a long day out. The Line 8 metro stop is a two-minute walk, so the rest of the city is easily within reach.

Home truths:
* At full occupancy, four guests will sleep on the sofa beds – two in the third bedroom, and two in the living area.
* If you're travelling with young children, a cot is available – ask your host in advance to make sure it's set up and ready on arrival.
* Bastille is one of Paris's liveliest nightlife districts – brilliant if you want to be in the thick of it, but worth bearing in mind if you're a light sleeper, as the area can be noisy in the evenings, particularly at weekends.
