Back inside, original mouldings, herringbone parquet, and a gilt chandelier give the dining room a quietly theatrical charm. The neighbourhood does the rest – Les Invalides, the Musée d'Orsay, and the Seine are all within easy walking distance, and four Metro lines sit within a ten-minute walk for when you want to venture further afield.

Home truths:
* Air conditioning is only available in the two bedrooms, via portable floor-standing units – the living and dining areas are not cooled. If you're visiting in summer, bear that in mind when planning how you'll spend warmer afternoons indoors.
* As is common in France, the toilet is separate from the second bathroom.
* This is the owners' primary home, so you may find some personal belongings present during your stay.
* Street parking is your only option here – there's no private garage or dedicated space on site. Paris's 7th arrondissement has paid on-street parking, so we recommend budgeting for that or relying on the excellent metro and RER connections nearby.
