Period ceiling beams give the living room a warmth you don't often find in a city apartment, and the bedroom – calm, light-filled, and tucked into the Marais – makes it easy to reset after a day out. The 3rd arrondissement location is well placed: cobbled streets lined with boutiques and cafes are right on your doorstep, Place de la République is a seven-minute walk, and Centre Pompidou is thirteen-minutes on foot. With a desk and wi-fi available, it also works well as a base if you need to slot in a few hours of remote work between sightseeing.

* At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
* If you're travelling with a baby or toddler, your host can provide a cot – worth requesting in advance to make sure it's ready on arrival.
* The apartment sits on a quiet backstreet, yet you can walk to many of central Paris's major sights – Notre Dame and the Louvre are roughly a twenty-minute to twenty-five-minute walk away.
* There is no air conditioning installed – the building's thick walls help keep things comfortable on most days, but if you're visiting during a heatwave your host has been known to provide portable fans.
* There's no lift here. You'll need to be able to climb stairs to reach the entrance of the home.
