Or skip cooking entirely and order in a wood-fired pizza from the nearby Upper Rissington. When it’s time to lay your head, a lofty bedroom with a king-sized bed awaits to bank a peaceful night’s sleep. Just don’t laze around too long –⁠ the great outdoors is waiting with bracing walking trails and cycle routes right on your doorstep. Make sure to make a pit stop at Great Rissington’s 14th Century inn (just under an hour’s walk away or six-minute drive) –⁠ the views over Windrush Valley are unmissable. Or jump in the car and explore the district’s famed chocolate-box villages and historic market towns, starting in Bourton-on-the-Water (seven minutes’ drive). Fondly named Venice of the Cotswolds, its low arched bridges crisscrossing the river flanked by weeping willows and honeyed cottages is as quintessentially English as it gets.
