Area
Encompassed by Haverhill to the north and Great Bardfield to the south, the charming village and civil parish of Steeple Bumpstead dates all the way back to 1042, when it was formerly called 'Steeple and Helions Bumpstead', and is probably best known for featuring in the Domesday Book of 1086. In the village, you will find a Post Office that sells homely essentials, whilst dining options in the settlement comprise the pubs of The Fox & Hounds and The Red Lion. You can also find a village hall, along with the serene greens of Moyns Park resting on its outskirts. A short drive away from Steeple Bumpstead will bring you to the grand university city of Cambridge, split down its centre by the River Cam, where you can find the historic settings of the Bridge of Sighs and the Castle Mound, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, as well as the luscious landscapes of Parker's Piece, The Backs, and Midsummer Common.
Region
The Home Counties comprise the counties that surround London and include Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex. Although mostly built up, they include some fabulous scenery and attractions which are well worth a visit.
