Area
The ancient village of Whixley rests between the town of Harrogate to the west and the city of York to the east. Centuries ago, the village was best known for its cherries, which were originally collected to be stored at the Priory of Knaresborough and were eventually sold in places as far as Covent Garden in London. Some houses still existing in the area - Cherry House, Cherry Cottage and Cherry Tree Farm – serve as a reminder of the village’s history.
