Sitting directly opposite the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in a quietly residential corner of Cannaregio, this second-floor apartment in an 18th-century palazzo is a world away from Venice's tourist scrum – yet the Rialto Bridge is just a thirteen-minute walk, and Piazza San Marco around nineteen. Canal views come with gondolas drifting past the windows, and a waterfront roughly 15 metres away means water taxi transfers are possible without crossing a single bridge. Inside, the finish is considered for its size, with quality lighting and linen that feels closer to a boutique hotel than a typical city rental.

* There's no lift here. You'll need to be able to climb stairs to reach the entrance of the home.
* If you're travelling with a baby, your host can provide a cot on request – just flag it in advance when you book.
* The second bathroom has a toilet only – there is one shower between all guests, located in the main bathroom.
* You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.
* A city tax is payable in cash before you check out – make sure you have euros on hand for this.
