Perched on the bluff above the Pacific, this apartment puts the ocean front and centre – from the terrace where sunset colours play out across the water, to the living room where you can watch the waves with a fire going. The complex itself is something special: tropical gardens, koi ponds, two pools, two jacuzzis, and direct beach access via stairs at the edge of the grounds. Solana Beach train station is a ten-minute walk away, connecting you up and down the coast whenever the mood strikes.

Home truths:
* There's no air conditioning here – the apartment is cooled by ocean breezes and ceiling fans. This works well for most of the year in Solana Beach, but if you're visiting during a warm spell, it's worth bearing in mind.
* This home is part of a multi-level blufftop complex with staircases connecting different areas of the grounds. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, it's worth knowing that the complex is not recommended for guests with mobility concerns.
* At full occupancy, one guest will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
* Though there's free parking here, it's only suitable for compact vehicles.
* Your host can provide a cot for little ones.
* You'll have access to the on-site swimming pool and tennis court here. They're shared with the building's other residents.
