* Between May and October, sea turtle nesting season means you'll need to keep balcony and porch lights off at night and close your blinds if your room faces the Gulf – it's a local rule, not just a suggestion. Red-filtered torches are available at area businesses if you need light on the beach after dark.
* Walton County enforces a leave-no-trace rule on the beach – anything left unattended from one hour after dusk until one hour after sunrise will be discarded. Plan to clear your chairs, umbrellas, and belongings each evening before heading in.
