This family-friendly home with its own private gym is the kind of place you look forward to returning to at the end of a busy day. In the main house, the calm, garden-facing bedroom makes lie-ins all the more tempting, while the covered pergola and fire pit give evenings outside a real sense of occasion. Balboa Park is a five-minute walk away, and North Park's independent cafes and restaurants are close enough to become a daily habit.

Home truths:
* There's one carport space included with the home, suitable for a single vehicle. Street parking is also available nearby at no charge.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can arrange a cot, baby bath, and changing table – you'll need to request these in advance. A lightweight wheelchair is also available on request for guests who need it, along with an adjustable railing and toilet riser.
* The detached studio doubles as a bedroom and private gym. The Murphy bed folds up to reveal the gym equipment, so it can't comfortably serve both purposes at once. If you'd like to use it for both during your stay, let your host know in advance.
* Grounds maintenance takes place every Tuesday at around 11am and typically wraps up within forty minutes – worth bearing in mind if you're planning a quiet morning in the garden that day.
