The attic bedroom, with its sloped ceilings and warm lighting, also has a cosy, restful quality – but the shared two-bedroom layout might not work for everyone. When you want the coast, Camber Sands' sweeping dunes are just a ten-minute drive away, and Bodiam Castle's moated medieval fortress is half-an-hour away.

* The second bedroom is accessed through the main bedroom via an open wall connection – there's no door between them. This works well for families or close friends, but isn't the right layout if you need full privacy between the two rooms.
