Sleeping inside an A-listed wing of Sir Walter Scott's baronial castle in the Scottish Borders is a rare thing – and this castle delivers it with real character. Eight individually named bedrooms, a wood-panelled library, and a games room with a full-size snooker table give large groups plenty of room to spread out. Step outside into the sheltered stone courtyard, and after the visitors leave, the formal gardens are yours alone – with the River Tweed glittering just beyond.

The estate and woodland are also accessible to visitors, though your accommodation remains private and the formal gardens are yours exclusively after the attraction closes.
