The city's key landmarks, restaurants, and shops are all within easy walking distance. Inside, original stone arches frame both the dining area and the bedroom, while bespoke handcrafted furniture and Portuguese artworks give the space real character. A rooftop near Avenida da Liberdade with a coworking space and monthly wine tastings means there's somewhere worth heading beyond the front door, too – when you're not sightseeing, that is.

Home truths:
* This is a studio-style apartment. A sofa bed in the living room provides sleeping space for additional guests beyond the main bedroom area. If you're a group of three or four, let your host know in advance so extra bedding is ready when you arrive.
* The lift in the building doesn't align directly with each floor – it stops in between each level. You’ll need to climb a few stairs to reach the lift, and then it stops either a half-floor below or a half-floor above the apartment.
* You're in the heart of a lively historic neighbourhood, so some street noise comes with the territory – particularly from the street outside. The soundproof windows and interior shutters help if you're sensitive to it.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot, high chair, and baby bath. Please request these in advance of your stay.
* You'll have access to a nearby rooftop terrace that has a co-working space and monthly wine tastings. Advance booking is required.
