Step out onto the balcony of this pine-clad Les Gets apartment and you're met with snow-dusted peaks and crisp alpine air – it's the kind of morning that makes an impression. The La Turche ski lift is a two-minute walk from the door, putting the vast Portes du Soleil ski area within easy reach, while the curved sofa and warm timber interior are waiting when you return. The village centre is less than a kilometre away for après-ski dining and local shops, and in summer the same trails turn into mountain-biking and walking country.

Home truths:
* The La Turche ski lift – the closest lift to the apartment – was closed several times last season and its reopening this winter has not yet been confirmed. If it is closed, you can reach the Perrières chairlift by skiing down or walking the same path. The Les Puthays bus stop is also a short walk away, with connections to the Perrières and TC Chavannes lifts.
* This is a compact apartment best suited to a couple or a small family of four. The living room and bedrooms are rather cosy – especially the room with bunk beds – so it works best if you plan to spend most of your time on the mountain.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot – request it in advance to make sure it's ready on arrival.
* As is common in France, the toilet is separate from the bathroom.
* A complimentary mid-stay cleaning service is included for stays of 14 nights or more.
