Step outside and you're a short walk from the Cathedral and the historic monumental area – the kind of central location that means you can wander back for a long lunch and head out again without a second thought. The surrounding streets are full of bars and restaurants to keep evenings interesting, too.

* The neighbourhood is lively well into the night, particularly at weekends, with bars and restaurants on the doorstep. It's a big part of the area's charm, but if you're a light sleeper, consider bringing earplugs.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and a high chair. Ask in advance to make sure everything is ready on arrival.
* Air conditioning is available in the living room. Some guests have found the bedrooms warm in summer, so it's worth opening windows or asking your host about fans if you're visiting in the warmer months.
