There's a record player rather than a television, a library of books, and board games for slower days – plus a sauna and twin tub. Portobello Beach is a short stroll away, with a direct bus route into Edinburgh city centre when you're ready to explore.

* The annexe sits within the grounds of the hosts' main family home, but the entrance and garden are entirely your own during your stay. Just note that your host has two dogs, a cat and chickens.
* There's no television here, which guests tend to love – the living area, record player, books, and garden do the job instead. Worth knowing if having a TV is important to you.
* If you need supplies, there's a shop roughly a five-minute walk away – worth picking up milk and basics before you settle in.
* You won't need a car here – you can walk to the beach, and a bus route into central Edinburgh is a short walk away. If you do want to drive, there's free on-street parking here.
