This apartment above Rose Street puts you right in the heart of New Town, and the living area makes the most of it – you can watch the street's famous energy play out from the comfort of your sofa. The interior is generous enough to feel unhurried, with a main bedroom en-suite and a separate bathroom with a bathtub for when you want to slow the pace down. But the location is the star. Princes Street Gardens is a five-minute walk, George Street is five minutes away, and the Royal Mile is reachable in around fifteen minutes on foot.

* This home is on the first floor and doesn't have a lift. You'll need to climb twenty-six stairs to reach the apartment, followed by two internal steps in the communal corridor. The building itself also has internal stairs at both the front and rear entrances, so it isn't suited to guests with limited mobility.
* There's no parking at the apartment, but both New Town and Old Town are very walkable and well connected by bus, so you may find you don't need a car at all.
* Towels, bedding, and bathroom essentials are provided on arrival but won't be replenished during your stay – if you're staying several nights, plan accordingly.
