Tucked into a grand Georgian townhouse in Edinburgh's New Town, this studio apartment is a well-considered base for two in one of Scotland's most walkable cities. The all-in-one layout has real character – there's a large dining table, a workspace in the sash window, and a clever kitchenette workstation that folds away to save space. From the front door, Princes Street Gardens is less than a ten-minute walk, Calton Hill a little further, the Royal Mile's ancient closes and whisky shops a fifteen-minute stroll away. For a short city break, we think it's a well-connected option.

Home truths:
* The apartment sits on the third floor with no lift, so you'll be climbing three flights of steep stairs. It won't be suitable for those with limited mobility or heavy luggage.
* There is currently construction on a neighbouring building, so expect some daytime noise during your stay.
* This is a studio apartment, so you'll be living and sleeping in one space.
* You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.
* There's a clothing rail instead of a proper wardrobe, so we'd recommend packing light.
