A converted barn sitting at the meeting point of Wales, Cheshire, and Shropshire, this house is built for groups who want both comfort and a reason to get competitive. The indoor sports hall – with a full-size tennis court, football goals, badminton, and basketball – means the fun isn't weather-dependent. Outside, a stone terrace with climbing roses is made for long alfresco dinners, while the barbecue area opens onto uninterrupted views across to the Welsh hills. When the day winds down, a log burner and a dedicated bar area make sure evenings are just as good.

Home truths:
* For those with reduced mobility, there's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom here.
* One of the super-king bedrooms can be split into twin beds if you'd prefer that layout – let your host know before arrival so it's ready when you get there.
* One of the bedrooms has a single-over-double bunk bed that can sleep up to three people – we think it might be best suited to children.
* The indoor tennis court is available from 9am to 12pm each day. If you'd like extra court time, your host can often arrange it – just ask in advance.
* You'll need a car here to make the most of your stay. Parking for up to ten cars is available on site – plenty of room for a big group arriving in multiple vehicles.
