Built in 1650 and Grade II listed, this north Oxfordshire cottage has the kind of original character that takes centuries to acquire – inglenook fireplace, uneven flagstones, and a third bedroom with its own period hearth. Evenings here have a natural rhythm: a meal in the dining area overlooking the village street, then a slow hour beside the fire. A private enclosed courtyard handles warmer nights alfresco, and two pubs are within walking distance for when you'd rather let someone else do the cooking. Blenheim Palace is 15 miles away, with Oxford and the Cotswolds both within easy reach.

Home truths:
* The ground floor has uneven floorboards – part of the cottage's 17th-century character, but worth bearing in mind if anyone in your group has mobility concerns.
* Guests have access to all areas of the home, apart from the upper floor and basement, which are locked for the host's personal use.
* The log fire is a real highlight in cooler months – your host provides a small starter pack of logs and kindling between October and March.
* Self-check-in is available here. You'll either pick up the keys at a nearby property or use a lockbox on the premises. Your host will confirm instructions before your arrival.
* Starter toiletries are provided. However, you will need to stock up on other essentials such as coffee and tea, as these are not included.
* Your host uses a third-party platform called Truvi for ID verification and to manage damage deposits independently from Plum Guide. They'll send you a link to fill out when you book.
