Step outside and the hot tub is waiting, mountain peaks stretching across the horizon and elk wandering the one acre of land around you – backed by fifteen acres of protected green space. Inside, wood beams and a gas fireplace set a tone that's easy to settle into, while the game room keeps things lively when the mood shifts. The covered deck with its fire pit is the real year-round draw, and the Jacuzzi with forest views makes it easy to fully switch off. Big Sky Resort is a fifteen-minute drive away.

Home truths:
* There is no air conditioning here, so summer stays can warm up during the day though mountain evenings cool down quickly.
* A starter supply of consumables – soap, paper products, laundry and dish detergent, towels, and more – is provided on arrival. Once these run out, you'll need to pick up your own, so it's worth stocking up on a grocery run early in your stay.
* There is a caretaker living in a detached guesthouse on the other side of the grounds, responsible for snow removal and outdoor maintenance. They do not have access to the main home, and all guest areas are on the opposite side of the grounds.
* You'll need a car to get around – downtown Big Sky, the resort, and the nearest shops all require a drive. There's parking space in the garage and additional spots on the driveway.
