Designed in the 1980s with floor-to-ceiling windows framing a sweep of Marche hills, this villa sits just 2km from the centre of Ascoli Piceno – close enough for a leisurely drive into town, but far enough to feel completely away from it all. Outside, a salt-water pool looks out over the countryside, while a masonry pergola with a built-in barbecue and wood-fired oven makes alfresco evenings genuinely hard to leave. The Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic coast are both within easy reach, making this a strong base whether you're after hiking, beaches, or simply the rolling hills.

* Air conditioning is only available in the bedrooms here – the living areas, kitchen, and dining room are not cooled, so bear that in mind if you're visiting in the height of summer.
* The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October, so if you're travelling outside those dates you won't be able to use it.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair.
* The villa sits about 2 km from the centre of Ascoli Piceno, so you'll want a car to get around comfortably – the good news is there's ample free parking on site, with spaces near the entrance and additional spots by the pool.
* Several beds across the villa can be reconfigured – the main bedroom's double can be separated into singles, and the twin beds in one of the first-floor rooms can be joined into a double. Let your host know your preferences before you arrive.
