Argegno is one of those Lake Como villages that feels lived-in rather than polished for visitors, and this apartment sits right at its heart – steps from the ferry landing and the main piazza. The 19th-century building has been carefully updated inside, with double-glazed windows keeping things cool and quiet even in summer. From the door, you can walk to the Greenway del Lago in thirty-three minutes, catch a cable car up to the Alps in five, or simply take the ferry to villages scattered along the lake's shores.

Home truths:
* You'll need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the apartment – access is via the steps next to Bar Motta, or through the small square with the fountain. There is no lift.
* At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
* If you're travelling with a baby, note that the apartment is not set up for infants under two – there's no cot or high chair available.
* You'll receive one parking ticket per night booked, valid at the port car park and the church car park nearby. On Monday mornings, parking near Piazza Conti Persini is not permitted due to the weekly market – plan accordingly if you need your car that day.
