Perched on a hillside in the Douro Valley, this villa is built around one of Portugal's great views – terraced vineyards stepping down to the river, visible from the pool, the living room, and each of the three en-suite bedrooms. Mornings are best spent drifting in the water as the valley unfolds below; evenings pull you to the terrace as the light drops across the hills. The barbecue area makes it easy to dine alfresco, with the same landscape framing every meal. Resende's wine country is all around you, and the villa gives you a quietly excellent base from which to take it in.
