Staying in this converted farmhouse is the best way to see De Cocksdorp. The traditional farmhouse has been converted into six apartments that share the large grounds, and each has its own terrace. It’s a two-minute stroll into the village, so it’s a convenient home from home. If the weather is fine, you’ll likely spend much of your time outside. Start your day with breakfast on the terrace, and round things off in the evening with a glass of wine while you watch the sun begin to set. Children will love having so much space to play in, and may have to be dragged away from the swings in the garden. The best way to explore the island of Texel is by bike, though there are excellent hiking options too. It’s an outdoorsy place so you can look forward to those nights of deep, contented sleep after busy days out. You might cycle eight minutes to the beach, where you can paddle in the sea and get lunch at a cafe. Slightly further afield, the seal sanctuary at Ecomare makes for a great day trip. It’s a twenty-minute drive, and you can swing by the Caluna swimming pool on the way home – the kids will love it.
