Tucked in close to the border that separates Tuscany from Umbria, this cosy villa has all the traditional trimmings you’d expect to see from a Tuscan home. Wood-beamed ceilings and terracotta tiles sandwich the rustic furnishings, statement fireplace, and all other elements that contribute to making this home feel open and welcoming. Outside the shared swimming pool glitters in the Tuscan sun, and when you’re not paddling away in it, you might find yourself soaking up vitamin D from one of the sunloungers. There’s plenty of space here, so much so that even shared bits will still feel like enough, and if you do want a little slice of privacy outside, then you can always return to the small terrace for an alfresco lunch. Cross the border into Umbria when you visit Lake Trasimeno – about a nineteen-minute drive – where you splash in the water and sunbathe with a good book, or take a boat trip on the lake. Closer to home, you can drive seven minutes into Cortona city centre to admire the buildings and whatever other sights might cross your path. Stop off for lunch at one of the many restaurants dotted around and be sure not to leave before a visit to the bakery. Bring back whatever sweet delicacies you found there to enjoy with an espresso in front of the crackling fire at night.
