Luminous and lofty, this suitably modern apartment is just the ticket for a family getaway. Inside, it's all monochrome and glass, with large windows and a little balcony, and the split-level layout means that it feels huge inside. You'll have plenty of space to make yourself right at home. We spent our time here cooking up delicious meals in the sleek kitchen to share around the dining table, lounging on the sumptuous cream sofa after a busy day exploring and getting some fresh air on the small balcony – the perfect spot for a glass of wine come sundown. Upstairs, a small bedroom is a great option for kids – the beds can also be linked together for grown-ups – while the second cosy bed is tucked away in the corner of the loft, overlooking the living room below.

The flat isn't in the centre of Milan – there are no two ways about it – but there's a metro station a ten-minute walk away, and from there it's around fifteen minutes to the Duomo. It's easy enough to get into the middle of the city if you need to, but there are a few eateries, shops and grocery stores nearby if you'd like to stay closer to home.

Home truths:
*The main bedroom is the open mezzanine and the bed overlooks the living room below – there are no doors and it isn't very private
*The second bedroom is quite small, and doesn't have any bedside tables – the single beds can be joined together to create a double on request
*A cot and high chair can be provided on request
*One of the showers is only 190cm high – it's fine for most but very tall guests may need to mind their heads
*This apartment isn't in the city centre
*While there is free street parking here, spots aren't guaranteed – a car isn't necessary with the metro station a ten-minute walk away
*This home has a shared entrance with other residents in the building, but guests will be able to self check-in on arrival
