Based between Alfama and Baixa and within easy walking distance of the sparkling marina, this charming apartment provides a great home-from-home for those who want to live like a Lisbon local. Here, you'll be just a short walk away from Lisbon Cathedral, as well as near lots of friendly bars and vibrant restaurants. The apartment itself has a boho feel, with colourful soft furnishings and funky artwork that give it tons of character, as well as arty touches such as the vinyl player. We also love the view over the tram and old roads from the window, which give the home an authentic feel.

Home truths

Given the home's central spot, expect to hear some street noise.

The bedroom curtains here don't fully block out the sunlight. If you're hoping to enjoy a lie-in, you might want to pack an eye mask.

Parking in Lisbon can be tricky but there is paid street parking nearby.

If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot, high chair, buggy and baby bath for free. You'll need to request them in advance.

This home is located on the second floor with lift access – there is stair access to get to the lift, so it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility.

About Alfama

As Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood, it’s not surprising that Alfama is also the corner of the city with the most character. Here, you’ll get an authentic taste of the real Portugal, away from the tourist-trodden trails of the centre. Unlike most of Lisbon, this area survived the famous 1755 earthquake, preserving an image of the old capital. Steep, cobbled streets are flanked with down-to-earth cafés, crumbling churches and intimate fado venues...
