Taken in and of itself, this apartment in Saint-Aubin-sur-Meris is perfectly pleasant. The stark white walls and wood floors feel smart and contemporary, while the flashes of blue and some eye-catching accoutrements – the lighting fixtures and funky stools, to single out a couple – stop it from feeling too anonymous. However, it's the home's outdoor space and excellent location that really distinguishes it from competitors. Along with two other apartments in the building, guests share a pretty garden bordered by flowerbeds and this looks out to the town's beach, which sits just across the street. As well as offering opportunities for watersports and relaxation, the beaches of Saint-Aubin-sur-Meris hold significance for the pivotal role that the region played during D-Day. The city of Caen is only half an hour away in the car and offers a wealth of attractions, including William the Conqueror's castle and a selection of contemporary galleries.
