Named after the river running through its lush landscapes, the Charente region of southwest France is an area where the natural world collides with quaint towns. Passing by vineyards, meadows, and pine forests, this magnificent home is just an eleven-minute drive from the town of Montbron. While you might pop in from time to time to visit its château or pick up fresh produce from the market, we bet that you’ll be spending a lot of time in the splendour of your home. Rustic and traditional from the outside, this farmhouse has the stone walls, terracotta roof slates, and wooden shutters you’d expect to see on a postcard from France. But while cows graze peacefully in the fields nearby, you'll be making a splash in your private, heated, outdoor pool, or pouring another glass of champagne while you wait for the barbecue to heat up. But it’s not all about the great outdoors. The interiors are incredibly chic and sophisticated, with a nod to their rustic past. Wooden ceilings are freshened up with white paint, while modern, Scandi-style furniture replaces the cosy country pieces that you might have anticipated. We love the idea of sipping chenin blanc on the mid-century sofa, especially alongside the vintage, cast-iron Godin stove. A true mix of style and substance.
