Ski-in/ski-out access at Whitefish Mountain Resort is the headline here – step out of the door and you're on the slopes. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame forested peaks from the living room, where a wood-burning fireplace makes it easy to linger long after the lifts close. After a day on the mountain, the private hot tub with its uninterrupted mountain views is hard to resist. Glacier National Park and downtown Whitefish are both close enough for day trips, making this chalet as well-suited to summer adventures as it is to a powder-day week.

Home truths:
* One of the bedrooms has a single-over-double bunk bed that can sleep up to three people – we think it might be best suited to children.
* The wi-fi can be temperamental here. It might be worth bringing a personal hotspot device with you if you know you'll need to access the internet.
* Open fires on the outdoor fire pit are not permitted during fire season – your host can let you know the relevant dates when you arrive.
* You'll need a car to make the most of your stay here. Downtown Whitefish is a short drive away, and Glacier National Park is around forty minutes from the door. Garage parking is available for one vehicle.
