Perched among the pines of Tahoe City, this house is built around a soaring living room where a river rock fireplace draws the eye straight out to the forest deck beyond. That wraparound deck is where the stay really opens up – partial lake views, outdoor speakers, and enough room for alfresco dinners under the canopy. After a day on the slopes, the cedar sauna earns its place, and the loft bedroom with its frame of towering pines makes winding down effortless. Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows are less than a twenty-minute drive, with Homewood Ski Resort just ten-minutes away.

Home truths:
* There's no air conditioning here, so summers can get warm indoors – opening windows and shading the south-facing glazing during the day helps keep things comfortable.
* In winter, four-wheel drive or snow chains may be necessary to reach the home safely, and driveway capacity drops from three spaces to two. There are three uncovered spaces in the driveway during drier months.
* The home sits on a quiet forested hillside around 3 miles from Tahoe City, so you'll want a car for groceries, restaurants, and most activities. Uber and Lyft do operate in the area if you'd rather not drive every time.
* The sauna is accessed through the main bedroom's en-suite, so guests not staying in that room will need to pass through to use it – worth bearing in mind if you're travelling as a mixed group.
