Snow-dusted peaks fill the windows of this third-floor apartment in Olympic Valley, where a floor-to-ceiling stone hearth anchors a living room that earns its keep after a day on the mountain. French doors open onto a private balcony where the jagged Palisades Tahoe summits stretch across the horizon – worth lingering over. The free Mountaineer shuttle stops just outside, putting the Village and lifts a minute or two away, and Palisades Tahoe village – restaurants, bars, and boutiques included – is around half a mile on foot.

* If you're planning to drive, four-wheel drive or snow chains may be necessary depending on conditions, so check the forecast before you travel.
* You'll have two parking spaces – one covered, one uncovered – included with the apartment.
* Skis, snowboards, poles, bicycles, and muddy shoes need to stay in the ski locker in the carport rather than inside – worth keeping in mind when you're unloading after a day on the mountain.
