Perched on the south-western slopes of Sicily, this villa earns its keep from the moment you step through the glass doors. The hillside views stretch towards the sea, making the saltwater pool and its poolside solarium a natural gathering point – countryside and coastline in one uninterrupted sweep. Come evening, the covered terrace is the place to be, with a barbecue to hand and no reason to hurry. Each en-suite bedroom has real breathing room, and the ground-floor living area, anchored by a fireplace, is a comfortable retreat when the sun goes down.

Home truths:
* You'll need a car to make the most of this stay. The beach and village are a short drive away, and all the major sights – Selinunte, Agrigento, Trapani – require driving. There's private parking within the home.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair. Make sure to request these in advance of your arrival.
* The pool is seasonal – it opens on 1st April and closes on 31st October. If you're visiting outside those dates, the terraces and garden are still yours to enjoy, but the pool won't be available.
* The fourth and fifth bedrooms are accessed via external stairs.
