A George Basevi-designed townhouse in South Kensington doesn't come with a vintage bowling alley very often – but here you are, six floors of Georgian grandeur with one tucked in the basement. Upstairs, the soaring plasterwork of the dining room is built for long evenings, while a skylit kitchen and walled garden make the quieter days just as good. The Victoria and Albert Museum is a three-minute walk, South Kensington Tube is two-minutes away, and Knightsbridge and Chelsea are well within reach on foot.

Home truths:
* This home spans six floors with no lift, so you'll be using the stairs a lot – worth bearing in mind if anyone in your group has mobility considerations.
* Air conditioning is available in the bedrooms and kitchen, but not in other living areas such as the dining room, cinema, or garden.
* The lead guest must be at least 25 years old.
* If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair at no additional cost. You'll need to request them in advance.
* This is a lived-in home. You should expect some of the host's personal belongings to be present during your stay.
* Parking here can be tricky, so we recommend sticking to easily accessible public transport where possible.
* At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
