Back at the studio apartment, the space may be compact, but the smart layout ensures it never feels too cramped. The dining table doubles as a desk if you need to keep on top of work between adventures, too. Just keep in mind that it's on the second floor without a lift – but in this location, we think that's a fair trade.

* You'll reach the apartment via two flights of narrow, steep stairs – there's no lift and about 40 stairs. It's worth bearing in mind if you have heavy luggage or limited mobility.
* The building entrance sits in a back lane off the main street. It can feel a little unexpected on arrival, but it's easy to find with the detailed instructions your host provides.
* Given the central New Town location, some street noise – particularly on weekend evenings – is part of the deal. The apartment comes with earplugs if you need them.
